10 YA BOOKS ON MY TBR LIST

Since I just started this book blog, I decided to make a TBR list that I’ll work on then update you on my progress at the end of the year. Here are 10 books on my TBR pile list that are YA.

Five Feet Apart

I got this book back before the movie came out. I was planning to read the book before seeing the movie but then never had the time to do so. So I watched the movie anyways (I know! I know! I should have waited but I couldn’t help myself!).

But, I still want to read the book because the books are always better and I really love the idea of a romance focused solely on emotional connection instead of physical so this is a must read for me.

The Hate U Give

Like Five Feet Apart, I have already seen the movie. But I’m really interested in reading the book because the message is so powerful and important. I’ve been putting off reading it because I know it’s going to be a highly emotional read for me personally.

Especially since I’m of mixed race, partly Black and Latina. I related a lot to certain aspects of the movie. Especially when she felt stuck between two different worlds/cultures. Although, I don’t directly experience everything a fully black person or anyone with darker skin than mine do.

Even though I really want to read it, I want to wait till I’m in a good headspace. Where I can read it but not be put into a dark mood.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

This is the last book on my TBR list that I’ve seen the movie version of already. I remember watching the movie years ago back when I still was in high school. I remember enjoying it but I don’t remember much of it.

But this book is always recommended to read when it comes to YA Contemporary with Mental Illness themes. So that definitely sounds interesting to me. I love books that are focused on real issues and I think contemporary does it very well. Plus I think I’ll relate to the main character because I too am more shy and introverted.

Who Put This Song On?

Who Put This Song On? is a  YA Contemporary novel taking place in the 00’s. Its’s about a black teenage girl struggling with depression trying to figure out her identity while also being in the only black family in the neighborhood.

This sounds very interesting and tackles very important subjects like race and mental illness issues. I think Mental Illness isn’t talked about as much from the preceptive of POC. So I think this will be a well needed voice to be heard and another important message to read about.

Darius The Great Is Not Okay

Another YA Contemporary with Mental Illness themes that’s recommended a lot is Darius The Great Is Not Okay. So I’m definitely interested. A story with a guy with Depression who is biracial? I’m probably going to relate to a lot in this book and it’s defiantly going to make me emotional like The Hate You Give will.

The story is about him visiting his mom’s family in Iran for the first time. Since I love learning about other cultures this sounds very interesting to me. A story focused on themes of friendship instead of romance? Oh, yes! I definitely love a story focused on friendship or family so I’m looking forward to reading this.

When Dimple Met Rishi

One genre in contemporary I want to get more into is romcom books. When Dimple Met Rishi is very popular and talked about all over in the book community. Because of this, I had to add it to my TBR list.

A story with a “Arranged Marriage” trope? Sounds interesting. Enemies to Lovers trope? Oh yes, I’m definitely intrigued! A funny and heartwarming rom com with two POC characters sounds very interesting. I look forward to reading this cute, happy, and funny story that probably will give me all of the feels!

Tweet Cute

Tweet Cute is a cute rom com book with a premise like You’ve Got Mail!  I totally accept! I love the movie You’ve Got Mail so a story with a similar but more modern version of the classic romantic trope is something I’m definitely interested in.

This sounds like a good fun fluffy romance to read when I want to feel all the happy feelings that make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, a feeling only a romcom can give.

The Sound of Stars

First of all, look at the cover! It’s so pretty! I want to have an hardcover of it right now to add to my book collection because of it! But the cover isn’t all I’m interested in.

A dystopian novel with one character who loves books and one character who loves music who go on a journey together? A book with characters who love different forms of art, using that art to save people? Very touching and I’m loving the idea of it. Romance between an alien and a human? I like this trope when done well so we will see.

Overall the synopsis looks interesting and I’m in love with the cover so I’m giving it a try.

When You Were Everything

I love that this YA Contemporary novel is focused on friendship rather than romance. I’ve always believed that the heartbreak of losing friendship shouldn’t be belittled. It should be talked about more in fiction and now there’s a book about it!

This book will most defiantly destroy me. But when the time is right, I’m ready to get drowned in all the feels over a fictional friendship break up.

Loveless

A novel with an Aro Ace Main Character and a story focused on identity and self acceptance? Oh yes definitely being added to my TBR list! A story about how platonic love can be just as powerful as romantic love? Yes even more!

I love the idea of having a story about a character who’s starting University and has never been in love, kissed anyone, or had a crush.

People under the Ace spectrum are highly underrepresented. To the point at times people even say that it’s not human to not feel a certain way. So I’m very interested in reading a story focused on this aspect of sexuality that isn’t talked about often enough.

So that’s my YA TBR list, Thanks for reading! If you want to know what else is on my TBR list that are of other genres, let me know in the comments below.
