Five Songs That Remind Me of Loveless: Top Five Wednesday
Since it’s Wednesday, I thought it would be fun to the Goodreads Top Five Wednesday book meme. Top Five Wednesday (T5W) is a weekly book meme hosted by Gabriela. You can check out the group here for more discussions and topics. Today I’m doing something a little different and instead of doing this week’s topic, I’m doing a past topic that I thought was a cool idea which is Songs That Remind You of Books.
“Explain why a specific song reminds you of a book. You can do five songs for five books or five songs for a single book, do what yall feel.”
Since I recently posted my thoughts on Loveless by Alice Oseman (you can check it out here), I thought I would talk about five songs that remind me of Loveless.
When by dodie
There are lines from this song that sound just like how Georgia felt throughout the book. When Georgia realizes that the idea of dating sounds better than the reality, it is a big moment in the book and the lyrics in this song make me think of her.
Never Been in Love by Will Jay
Never Been in Love is a pretty obvious song be linked to Loveless. This song makes me think of the beginning of Loveless with Georgia’s big realization of finishing high school and having never had a crush or been in love. There is so much pressure for teenagers to have the “high school experience” and if you haven’t kissed anyone or been in a relationship then there’s something wrong with you or you’re a loser. I think everyone has experienced this type of pressure to some extent so I think it’s very relatable.
everything i wanted by Billie Eilish
This song makes me think about the part of the story when Georgia starts to realize she’s aro-ace. How she grieved over all the things in life she won’t ever get to have that, in reality, wasn’t even something she wanted. This book portrays her feelings of complicated complex emotions she goes through so well. Like the song, sometimes getting everything you think you want, turns into a nightmare instead.
You’re Song by Moulin Rouge Soundtrack
If you have already read Loveless, then you know why this song is on this list. If not, I won’t spoil it, but this song is part of a very sweet scene in the book. It’s also one of my favorite parts of the book. But now every time I hear this song, I’m gonna think about that scene and get all the fangirl feels!
For Me by Dearlie
This song is definitely an Ace Anthem! This song is so relevant to this story and makes me think of towards the end of the book when Georgia starts to accept the fact she’s aroace and the freeing feeling it gives her. Yet this song also mentions how people respond when being told of her sexuality and the confusion that comes along with it which is portrayed beautifully (so good it made me emotional) in the book as well.
So that’s my T5W post for the week, hope you enjoyed!
